Kernel warning via IPv6 listener-close race
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Race condition in the Linux kernel's IPv6 TCP receive path allows context-dependent attackers to trigger a socket-accounting warning. In tcp_v6_do_rcv(), a listener closed between tcp_v6_rcv() and packet processing enters TCP_CLOSE, yet the receive path still calls skb_clone_and_charge_r() without locking its socket accounting. The race requires an IPv6 listener to close while a packet is in flight; the published trace establishes a kernel warning, not a crash or code execution.
