Filesystem read-only denial via failed verity rollback
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Denial of service in Linux 5.15 Btrfs fs-verity cleanup allows context-dependent attackers to force a filesystem read-only through failed rollback. When enabling verity exceeds a qgroup limit or available space, rollback_verity() and orphan cleanup request metadata reservations that the limit refuses instead of using the global reserve. The path requires an attempt to enable verity on a writable file under those space conditions; it can also leave a subvolume inaccessible or prevent a read-write remount.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
