Kernel memory corruption via unchecked MTU buffer switch
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Out-of-bounds access in the Linux mvpp2 driver allows local users with network-administration privileges to corrupt kernel memory via an MTU change. The mvpp2_change_mtu path switches to per-CPU buffers without rechecking whether twice the RX queue count fits the eight-pool limit, so mvpp2_bm_init accesses beyond priv->page_pool. The path requires an mvpp2-backed interface, a qualifying queue configuration, and privilege to change its MTU; network traffic alone is not shown to reach it.
