CVE-2026-98265

Kernel memory corruption via USB packet-count mismatch

Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in Linux 7.0 and affected stable branches allows attackers to corrupt kernel memory via a crafted USB audio device. The implicit-feedback path in snd_usb_queue_pending_output_urbs() replaces the playback URB's allocated packet count with a larger capture count, so prepare_playback_urb() or prepare_silent_urb() writes beyond iso_frame_desc[]. Triggering the write requires an active stream from a UAC2 device with mismatched capture and playback packet counts; the published reproducer demonstrates the overwrite, not code execution.
