Out-of-bounds read via unchecked codec count
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Linux Bluetooth HCI codec parsing allows attackers to trigger a one-byte read beyond an HCI reply buffer. Both Read Local Supported Codecs parsers consume the standard codec array, then read vnd_codecs->num before confirming that the count byte remains in the reply. A truncated Bluetooth controller reply is required; the public patch establishes the invalid read but does not demonstrate data disclosure or a kernel crash.
