Kernel memory corruption via unprotected commit-root traversal
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux btrfs allows attackers to trigger kernel memory corruption during concurrent zoned device replacement. The mark_block_group_to_copy() path searches the commit root with locking skipped, so a concurrent transaction commit can free an extent buffer before it is accessed. The race requires zoned btrfs device replacement and a concurrent commit; the public patch does not establish a reliable crash or code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
