Skipped delayed references via stale rebuild flag
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
A Btrfs free-space-tree state error in affected Linux kernels from 6.14 onward skips delayed-reference processing after a rebuild failure. In btrfs_rebuild_free_space_tree(), transaction-restart and other error exits leave BTRFS_FS_CREATING_FREE_SPACE_TREE set instead of clearing it. The issue requires a failed Btrfs rebuild; the published record identifies no attacker-controlled trigger or demonstrated data loss.
