Kernel use-after-free via signaled fence name lookup
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux 7.1.5 through 7.2.7 allows local users to trigger a stale kernel-memory read through signaled dma-fence name queries. The dma_fence_driver_name() and dma_fence_timeline_name() functions check only whether fence operations exist, although release or wait callbacks can keep those operations attached after signaling and leave returned strings without RCU protection. Reaching the flaw requires an exported fence from an affected driver and a local name query; the published record does not establish privilege escalation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
