Out-of-bounds read via request socket miscast
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
An out-of-bounds read in Linux kernel IPv6 XFRM error handling allows remote attackers to trigger invalid reads during TCP SYN-ACK processing. The xfrm6_local_rxpmtu() and xfrm6_local_error() callbacks treat an attached request socket as a full IPv6 socket and read beyond its allocation. Reachability requires a SYN-ACK to take a rerouted IPv6 XFRM tunnel path with a lower MTU; the published patch does not establish data disclosure or a reliable crash.
