Receive-thread hang via cyclic modem NDP chain
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
An infinite loop in Linux's MHI MBIM driver allows context-dependent attackers to hang a receive thread through a cyclic NDP from a modem. In mhi_mbim_rx(), traversal accepts a nonzero wNextNdpIndex even when it points to the current or an earlier NDP, so the same NTB is parsed indefinitely. Triggering the flaw requires malformed data delivered by an attached MHI modem; the demonstrated result is one CPU pinned at 100%, not a proven whole-system outage.
