CVE-2026-98233

Packet loss via uncleared receive-ring ownership

Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026

Packet loss in the Linux kernel's AF_PACKET receive ring allows local users to suppress captured packets with an unsupported UDP GSO packet. In tpacket_rcv(), failed virtio-net header conversion leaves a TPACKET_V1 or V2 slot marked as owned instead of releasing it. A process needs CAP_NET_RAW and an affected receive ring; a one-frame TPACKET_V2 ring then drops the next valid packet, not all host network traffic.
