Kernel stack disclosure via malformed MODE SENSE lengths
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Out-of-bounds access in the Linux kernel SCSI core allows physically proximate attackers to disclose kernel stack data with a crafted USB storage device. In scsi_cdl_enable(), unvalidated MODE SENSE header and block-descriptor lengths wrap the MODE SELECT length and place buf_data beyond a 64-byte stack buffer. Automatic scanning reaches the flaw without a mount or block-device access; a build-specific QEMU proof also achieved command execution, but general reliability is unestablished.
