Adapter reuse failure via dangling channel pointer
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
A use-after-free in Linux 6.6 allows context-dependent attackers to interrupt I2C address translator adapter reuse. The i2c_atr_add_adapter() error path frees a child channel after i2c_add_adapter() fails but leaves atr->adapter[chan_id] pointing at the freed object. An ATR-equipped system must first encounter child-adapter registration failure; later cleanup can use the freed object, and a repeat add returns EEXIST.
