Use-after-free via uncanceled SDIO IRQ work
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux MMC core permits an SDIO IRQ worker to dereference freed host memory during controller removal. The mmc_free_host() path leaves host->sdio_irq_work queued, allowing sdio_irq_work() to recover a host after mmc_host_classdev_release() frees it. The race requires a host controller that calls sdio_signal_irq() and work still pending during removal; the upstream report does not establish an attacker-controlled trigger or a demonstrated outcome.
