Use-after-free via uncanceled MMC retry work
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux MMC host software queue allows context-dependent attackers to access freed kernel memory during driver removal. When request_atomic() returns -EBUSY, mmc_hsq_pump_requests() queues retry_work but does not cancel it before its devm-allocated state is freed. The race requires the sdhci-sprd driver, a busy atomic request, and host removal while retry work remains pending; the resulting dereference can destabilize the kernel.
