CVE-2026-98207

Inflated transfer counts via stale CRC retry accounting

Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026

Incorrect transfer accounting in the Linux MMC-over-SPI driver causes inflated completed-byte counts after a multi-block CRC retry. In mmc_spi_request(), the recovery path clears the error but retries the request without resetting data->bytes_xfered from the failed attempt. The discrepancy requires a later-block CRC error followed by a successful internal retry; the published patch establishes incorrect completion accounting, not an attacker-controlled trigger or data corruption.
