Kernel stack disclosure via partial compat effect copy
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Information disclosure in Linux kernel input force-feedback handling allows local users to read kernel stack bytes via compat ioctls. The input_ff_effect_from_user() compat path copies only the smaller ff_effect_compat into an uninitialized native ff_effect, then input_ff_upload() retains the unwritten tail for retrieval through UI_BEGIN_FF_UPLOAD. Exposure requires a 32-bit compat force-feedback upload and access to a uinput force-feedback daemon path; the documented consequence is local kernel-memory disclosure, not remote access.
