Kernel use-after-free read via unlocked sensor state
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
A use-after-free in Linux kernel 6.5 allows local users to trigger an unsafe kernel read through the HP WMI sensor debugfs entry. In fungible_show(), seq_printf() reads nsensor->current_state after hp_wmi_update_info() releases state->lock, while a concurrent refresh can free and replace that string. The race requires an HP WMI sensor, enabled debugfs, and overlapping sensor reads; debugfs is root-only by default, and the source establishes neither code execution nor data disclosure.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
