CVE-2026-98187

Kernel heap over-read via truncated EEPROM interface record

Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in the Linux p54 EEPROM parser allows context-dependent attackers to trigger a kernel heap over-read via malformed device data. In p54_parse_eeprom(), the PDR_INTERFACE_LIST loop checks only that an exp_if record starts inside the entry, then reads if_id and variant even when the trailing record is incomplete. The malformed record must reach the p54 driver through device-supplied EEPROM data; the over-read also affects synth front-end selection, but the public record does not establish disclosure to an attacker.
