Out-of-bounds read via unchecked scan response lengths
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Linux kernel mwifiex scan handling allows context-dependent attackers to induce reads beyond a firmware command response. The mwifiex_ret_802_11_scan() handler subtracts fixed fields and a firmware-reported BSS length from resp->size without checking either extent, so the derived TLV length can underflow. The path requires a Marvell mwifiex Wi-Fi device to return a short or oversized scan response; control by a radio peer and disclosure of the over-read data are not established.
