One-byte out-of-bounds read via empty mesh PREQ
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Linux 7.2 mac80211 mesh PREQ parsing allows attackers to trigger a one-byte overread with an empty wireless element. ieee80211_mesh_preq_size_ok() calls ieee80211_mesh_hwmp_preq_get_bottom() before checking the fixed header length, so the helper reads the flags byte beyond an empty payload. The path requires processing mesh PREQ traffic; the published record does not establish attacker-visible data disclosure or a crash.
