Host crash via queue-less active monitor interface
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
A local denial of service in Linux kernel mac80211 allows local users with CAP_NET_ADMIN to crash the host via a down monitor interface. The ieee80211_set_mon_options path accepts MONITOR_FLAG_ACTIVE without checking for a transmit queue allocated only when a monitor is created active, so affected drivers dereference the missing queue when the interface opens. Exploitation requires a driver that supports active monitoring and permission to change interface settings; the resulting kernel fault interrupts the host.
