CVE-2026-98181

Kernel memory corruption via double-counted display properties

Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in the Linux GUD display driver allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt kernel memory via crafted USB display properties. In gud_plane_atomic_check(), the plane-property loop increments num_properties while also adding its loop index to the req->properties write index, reaching beyond the allocated slots. Triggering the demonstrated write requires an attached GUD USB device advertising maximum property counts and a display state check; the public report does not demonstrate code execution.
