CVE-2026-98175

Host disruption via uncanceled SMB reconnect work

Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux Kernel SMB client allows local users to disrupt the host during SMB reconnect and connection teardown. The clean_demultiplex_info() function frees server state after canceling echo work but leaves reconnect work queued, so smb2_reconnect_server() reads the freed object. The race requires an SMB client connection and a reconnect overlapping demultiplex-thread exit; the published crash shows a use-after-free read, not code execution.
