CVE-2026-98169Network attack vector

Kernel memory disclosure via short SMB snapshot replies

Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026

Information disclosure in affected Linux SMB client kernels allows context-dependent attackers to read slab memory via short snapshot replies. The smb3_enum_snapshots() path enlarges ret_data_len beyond the SMB2_ioctl() reply buffer when a server returns less than the snapshot header, and copy_to_user() reads past that buffer. Exploitation requires a malicious SMB server response and a client snapshot-enumeration request on an affected SMB mount; the exposed data is adjacent kernel slab memory.
