Kernel crash via invalid sparse CPU ID
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Improper CPU ID validation in Linux 7.0 through 7.2.6 allows local users to crash the kernel through BPF per-CPU map operations. bpf_map_check_op_flags() compares a caller-supplied CPU ID with the number of possible CPUs instead of checking the ID bound and possible-CPU mask. Exploitation requires a sparse possible-CPU mask and local access to issue raw bpf() map calls; an accepted absent ID reaches the per-CPU update path and triggers a kernel paging fault.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
