Kernel warning via unchecked USB rotation mask
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Improper input validation in the Linux GUD driver allows physically proximate attackers to trigger a kernel warning via a crafted USB display. gud_plane_add_properties passes a device-reported rotation bitmask to drm_plane_create_rotation_property without requiring GUD_ROTATION_0, violating the helper's supported-mask invariant. Reachability requires a GUD USB peripheral that omits the bit; the demonstrated result is a WARN_ON during device probing, not a kernel crash.
