Remote denial of service via unpadded parameter iteration
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux kernel SCTP implementation allows remote attackers to hang a host via a crafted ASCONF-ACK chunk. sctp_get_asconf_response() advances by raw parameter lengths while sctp_verify_asconf() uses four-byte padding, so an odd length desynchronizes parsing and a zero length stalls the softirq loop; short error parameters also permit an out-of-bounds read. The peer needs an ADD-IP-enabled association with an outstanding ASCONF, and the consequence is a persistent CPU soft lockup rather than memory corruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
