Incorrect IPv6 multicast filtering via RCU list diversion
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Race condition in Linux IPv6 multicast source filtering allows attackers to cause incorrect packet filtering during source removal. The ip6_mc_del1_src() path rewrites an unlinked node's sf_next pointer before an RCU grace period, diverting concurrent readers from active sources into the tombstone list. The race requires an active source filter to be removed while a lockless lookup runs; affected readers can miss valid sources and examine deleted entries, with no further impact documented.
