System hang via fbtft IRQ lock inversion
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Deadlock in affected Linux kernels allows attackers to hang systems through concurrent fbtft console rendering and deferred I/O. fbtft_mkdirty and fbtft_deferred_io take dirty_lock without disabling local interrupts, allowing hardirq printk processing to invert its order with console_owner. Reachability requires the fbtft driver, framebuffer console rendering during hardirq processing, and overlapping deferred I/O.
