Real-time workload interruption via failed task pushes
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Improper task migration in Linux 5.11 allows attackers to interrupt real-time workloads via pinned SCHED_FIFO tasks. The RT and deadline balancers leave migrate-disabled tasks marked pushable and repeatedly wake a stopper thread for migrations that must fail. Reachability requires a workload that creates the pinned real-time scheduling state; the loop consumes CPU time and can starve queued real-time work until the running task sleeps.
