Data corruption via backward LZ4 literal copying
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Data corruption in Linux kernel EROFS since 5.13 allows attackers to corrupt file contents through LZ4-compressed extents. EROFS rolling decompression assumes only the latest 64 KiB must remain available, but x86 memmove can copy long nonoverlapping literals backward and invalidate that rolling window. The condition requires an EROFS filesystem using big compressed clusters and LZ4 rolling decompression; the documented consequence is incorrect decompressed data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
