Kernel memory corruption via unchecked persistent metadata
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Heap out-of-bounds write in affected Linux kernels allows attackers to corrupt kernel memory via persistent ring-buffer metadata. The rb_cpu_meta_valid function trusts saved meta->nr_subbufs when walking a bitmap allocated for nr_pages + 1 entries instead of verifying that the counts match. Reachability requires persistent tracing across boots and a mismatched saved count; validation then writes beyond the bitmap and can crash the kernel.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
