Kernel soft lockup via sparse NVMe namespaces
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux NVMe host driver allows remote attackers controlling a target to cause a soft lockup during namespace scanning. The nvme_scan_ns_list() function iterates across every absent 32-bit NSID in each reported gap and calls nvme_find_get_ns() once per value instead of walking only namespaces that exist. Exploitation requires a connected NVMe target to report a sparse namespace list with a very large NSID gap; the resulting workqueue stall interrupts service on the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
