Kernel stalls via misclassified faultable stack helpers
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Improper sleep-context validation in Linux allows local users with BPF-loading privileges to block kernel execution via faultable stack helpers. The bpf_get_stack() and bpf_get_task_stack() faultable prototypes omit might_sleep even though build-ID resolution can perform blocking filesystem reads. Exploitation requires permission to load a qualifying BPF program and invocation from an RCU, preemption-disabled, or timer context, where the blocking operation can stall execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
