CVE-2026-98037Hinoki check available

Kernel fault via stale BPF object pointer

Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026

Use-after-free in the BPF verifier in affected Linux builds allows local users to trigger a kernel fault via a crafted BPF program. The type_is_ptr_alloc_obj() predicate accepts a PTR_UNTRUSTED pointer retaining MEM_ALLOC as live after RCU protection ends, so bpf_refcount_acquire() dereferences NULL or stale memory. Reachability requires permission to invoke bpf(); the resulting unsafe dereference can interrupt the affected host.
