Kernel crash via unbounded policy-rule dump
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in the Linux mv88e6xxx driver allows local users to crash the kernel through an ethtool policy-rule query. The mv88e6xxx_get_rxnfc function overwrites the caller-supplied rule_cnt limit while using that field as the rule_locs array index, so an undersized count overruns the allocation and a zero count dereferences NULL. An administrator must first install policy rules, but ETHTOOL_GRXCLSRLALL itself requires no CAP_NET_ADMIN.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
