Kernel heap corruption via reboot-sentinel fallthrough
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Heap-based buffer overflow in the cx82310 Ethernet-over-USB driver in Linux allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt kernel memory. The rx_fixup path treats a 0xffff reboot sentinel as an incomplete-packet length, bypasses the MTU check, and copies up to 4094 bytes into a 1516-byte partial_data allocation. Exploitation requires a connected device to supply the crafted URB; a following URB also causes out-of-bounds reads and passes a spliced 64 KB frame to the network stack.
