Slab allocator corruption via incorrect folio release
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Memory deallocation flaw in the s390 ISM driver in affected Linux releases allows attackers to corrupt the slab allocator via an error path. The ism_alloc_dmb() error exit passes a folio_alloc()-allocated buffer to kfree() instead of dropping the folio with folio_put(), and it leaves dmb->cpu_addr uncleared. Reaching the faulty exit requires an s390 system using the ISM driver and an allocation failure; published material identifies allocator corruption but no further consequence.
