Kernel crash via NULL MDIO bus cleanup
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux macb driver allows attackers to crash the kernel during fixed-link device cleanup. macb_mii_init leaves bp->mii_bus NULL when a fixed-link device tree has no mdio child, but macb_remove and probe-error cleanup still pass it to MDIO teardown functions. The kernel oops requires that hardware description and either driver unbind or a later probe failure, so ordinary network traffic does not reach the flaw.
