Kernel panic via non-scalar bpf_loop iteration count
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Improper input validation in the Linux kernel 6.6.15 through 6.7 allows privileged local users to panic the kernel through an eBPF program. The bpf_loop helper accepts a pointer-valued iteration count, and verifier precision backtracking processes it as though it were a scalar upper bound, triggering a backtracking-misuse warning. The program must be submitted with privileges that permit pointer arguments, and service interruption occurs when panic_on_warn is enabled.
