Kernel crash via uninitialized clock parent count
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Kernel crash in the Linux kernel 6.9 LTC4282 hwmon driver occurs during clock-provider setup under affected stack initialization modes. ltc428_clk_provider_setup leaves clk_init_data.num_parents uninitialized while assuming it is zero, so clock registration can consume a stray parent count and crash. Reachability requires an LTC4282 device and a kernel built with CONFIG_INIT_STACK_ALL_PATTERN or CONFIG_INIT_STACK_NONE; no remote trigger is documented.
