Out-of-bounds read via oversized vDPA queue
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Linux allows local users with vhost-vdpa device access to trigger a 16-byte read beyond a descriptor ring. vhost_vring_set_num accepts a 16-bit power-of-two queue size, and vhost-vdpa passes it to set_vq_num without checking get_vq_num_max. Access to a vhost-vdpa character device is required; with vdpa_sim, the worker reads beyond the mapped descriptor ring.
