Kernel crash via transient error-pointer signaling
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Race condition in the vhost-vdpa configuration path in Linux allows local users to crash the kernel during eventfd setup. vhost_vdpa_set_config_call() installs an eventfd_ctx_fdget() error pointer in config_ctx before checking it, and a concurrent configuration callback passes that pointer to eventfd_signal(). Triggering the crash requires access to configure a vhost-vdpa device and winning the brief interrupt race; a rejected file descriptor can also stop configuration interrupts.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
