Kernel crash via unlocked config callback race
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux vhost-vdpa allows local users with VDUSE access to crash the kernel by racing config interrupts. A config callback loads config_ctx without locking while VHOST_VDPA_SET_CONFIG_CALL can replace it, drop its last reference, and free it before eventfd_signal dereferences it. Exploitation requires access to /dev/vduse, which is root-only by default, and concurrent interrupt injection plus call-fd replacement; the demonstrated consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
