CPU denial of service via stale skb marker
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux kernel allows local users to hog CPU through a blocking AF_UNIX socket receive using MSG_PEEK. The manage_oob() path skips an out-of-band skb and returns NULL without refreshing the last-skb marker, so unix_stream_data_wait() returns immediately and the receive loop busy-waits. A local process must create an AF_UNIX stream socket and arrange the required MSG_OOB and MSG_PEEK sequence; the receiving thread consumes CPU without crashing the kernel.
