Kernel memory leak via failed MACB probe
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Resource leak in the Linux kernel MACB Ethernet driver allows attackers to consume kernel memory through failed device probes. The probe unwind frees the network device without destroying the phylink instance created by macb_mii_init() when macb_alloc_tieoff() or register_netdev() fails. Triggering the leak requires a MACB device and that failure sequence; public sources establish neither unprivileged reachability nor a quantified service impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
