Kernel panic via unchecked zero clock rate
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Division by zero in the MSC313e watchdog driver in Linux allows attackers to trigger a kernel panic via a zero-rate hardware clock. During msc313e_wdt_probe(), the driver uses clk_get_rate(priv->clk) directly as the divisor when calculating max_timeout without checking for zero. Reachability requires an MSC313e watchdog whose clock provider returns zero during probe; no remote interface or data impact is reported.
