Packet data corruption via shared unwritable header
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Memory corruption in Linux allows attackers to overwrite data visible to an AF_PACKET socket through PPP channel bridging. In ppp_sync_txmunge(), a bridged received skb can bypass ppp_start_xmit(), and the function prepends address and control bytes without first making a shared header writable. Exploitation requires a PPPoE buffer clone queued to an AF_PACKET socket and bridging to a synchronous TTY channel; the bounded consequence is corruption of packet data still visible to that socket.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
