EEH recovery hang via recursive PCI locking
Published Sep 25, 2026 · Updated Sep 25, 2026
Denial of service in affected Linux kernel releases hangs the eehd thread during powerpc PCI error recovery on affected systems. The eeh_rmv_device function reacquires pci_rescan_remove_lock even though eeh_handle_normal_event already holds it, deadlocking the recovery path. The condition requires a PHB-level error or PCI_ERS_RESULT_NEED_RESET from a driver without EEH recovery handlers; public sources do not establish attacker-controlled triggering.
